Hero and Honda are two of the leading two-wheeler manufacturers in India. Erstwhile partners, these companies have given the country two of the most popular bikes in the form of Glamour and Unicorn. As both the companies are known for their excellent bikes, when they lock horns with each other, the buyers have a very difficult task of choosing the better one.
A comparison is attempted here between both, based on certain factors like cost, engine specifications, mileage and other relevant features.
Cost – The fundamental factor that determines the buying decision is the cost of the vehicle. If the cost of the bike overshoots the budget of the buyer, all other factors become irrelevant. Hence, pricing becomes a tricky but important function for the makers of bike. The Hero Glamour comes at an ex-showroom price of INR 53,375/- as compared to the cost of INR 63208/- of the CB Unicorn. As the price difference is around ten thousand rupees, the balance is tilted heavily in favour of the less costly Glamour.
Engine – Hero Glamour runs on a 124.7 cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke single cylinder OHC engine capable of generating 9 bhp of power and 10.35 Nm of torque. The CB unicorn features a superior 149.1 cc, 4 Stroke, Air-cooled, SI Engine of 13.3 bhp and torque of 1.3 kg. Clearly, the Unicorn is more powerful and faster than the Glamour is.
Mileage – The Glamour returns a mileage of 50 to 55 kmpl, whereas the CB Unicorn offers a slightly higher mileage of 55 to 60 kmpl. However, Hero Glamour comes with a slightly bigger fuel tank capacity of 13.6 liters, as compared to the 13 liters offered by the Honda Unicorn. Glamour has a top speed of 100 kmph, while the Unicorn offers a top speed of 118 kmph. While the Glamour needs 7.3 seconds to reach the speed of 60 kmph from Zero, the CB Unicorn needs only five seconds to attain the same speed.
Other Features – The Honda CB Unicorn is a taller, longer and wider bike than the Glamour is. It also has a higher ground clearance when compared with Glamour. The Hero Glamour offers Telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at front and Swing arm with hydraulic shock absorber in the back. The CB Unicorn also offers Telescopic Fork suspension system at the front, but Mono-suspension at the rear. Both the front and rear brakes of Glamour are of Drum type, whereas the CB Unicorn features a solid disc brake at the front and drum brake at the back.
To conclude, the Honda Unicorn seems to be a better vehicle in terms of engine power, mileage, speed and other technologies. However, Glamour is considerably cheaper than the Unicorn.
